Parallel Paradise
The poem is written in a way of free verse and a carpe diem. It can make people feel depress but most of the parts are criticizing people that they should live in the present and treasure what they have right now.
The first four lines in the poem are usually used by the doctors. While the patients are dying, most of the doctors would ask them if they would like to live with machine or choose to give up on their lives. Therefore, this poem can be seen as a monologue by a doctor. The second stanza is criticizing about people who lived with masks, which are not real. In the society right now, people always build the walls between other. There are no trust and believe. The stanza five is using the recent accident that happened around us to tell the truth that life is short and life is hard。 For example, the disappearing of MH370, the accidicent that Mr. Giske had been through (Lin, 2014). Using all these events, the lines explains that life is changeful, and we cannot predict what is going to happen in the future. The only thing we can do is "Carpe Diem", which is "live your life" in Latin.
Life is short and hard; the most harshest thingcan be remembering bad memories when wpeople are dying. While the society is trying to complify the meaning of life, may be it is better for people to say "goodbye" to the friends who might not have a chance to see them again; maybe it is better to "gow up" and stop hurting the love; may be we need to make life count and "live on" (Lin, 2014).
Therefore, this poem is convincing people to trust and love each other instead of doubting and hurting because of they are afraid of hurt.
Carpe Diem
Do you know who you are?
Do you know where you are?
Do you know what happened to you?
Do you want to live like this?
Put on a mask so you can live in a changing world
Put on the earphone so you can walk on the street
Put on the gloves so you can shake hands with friends
Put on the defense so you can experience true love
If the hurt scares you, bring an umbrella to protect you
If the dark scares you, light a candle to pacify you
If the loss scares you, find a compass to guide you
If the loneliness scares you, get someone to love you
It can be my last smile, I may lie in the car accident
It can be her last pray, she may lost with the MH370
It can be his last run, he may live with two bare legs
It can be their last song, they may sing for the Father
So, love when you can love, take off all your defenses and smile
So, trust when you can trust, talk to different friends and you pray
So, run when you can run, father will open up your way and lead
So, dream when you can dream, close you eyes, listen and imagine
You know love will never die; but we still need to say goodbye
You know family will never betray; but we still need to grow up
You know life will never be eternal; but we still need to live on
You know dreams will never end; but we still need to make them real
Are you ready to face your heart and beat the nightmare?
Are you ready to put past away and believe in your friends?
Are you ready to open the eyes and see the colorful world?
Are you ready to take the first step and dance with the love?
If you are ready, let’s do this one again.
