Loneliness

Do you know where the Anubis lie?

Down the cellar where they would never see the sky

Grounded with the pyramid that was piled by stone

Drown in the centuries of darkness all alone

Do you know how the Anubis feel?

Weight for the hearts with a death-change deal

With the rotting corpse down beside the pike

With the muttering whisper from a sound deathlike

Do you know why the Anubis cry?

For the infinite leaving without a good-bye

For the life cycle that is starting now again

For the life cycle that is starting now again

The poem used the allusion about Anubis. Anubis is form the ancient Egypt story. When the Pharaoh is dead, Anubis would be sculptured and put into the pyramids with the Pharaoh. However, there are stories about Anubis that Anubis is not a god, they are wesens, another types of species in the world. People killed these wesens and made them into mummy.

The poem is describing loneliness by using the example of Anubis. It compares the despair feeling with the feeling that Anubis that will never see the sky. The words “death-changing”, ”muttering whisper” create a spooky atmosphere. And in the last stanza, “infinite leaving”, “immoral”, “life cycle” shows the loneliness will never end (Lin, 2014). And for the Anubis, life cycle is a pain for them because they are suffering from the pain that will never end. Although the poem rhymes, the purpose of the rhyming is to exaggerate the feeling of loneliness, and tried to use a poetic way to express the loneliness. It is pathetic that people pictured Anubis as th God, but they do not truely understand Anbuis. That is the real reason that Anubis feel so lonely.  Darkness and infinite pain are horrible, but no one in the world can understand the Anbuis's thinking, that is the true tragedy.

According to different stories, the Pharaoh tortured thousands of people to find the wesen, the new species that was hiding in the normal people. And the Pharaoh would kill them and put them in coffin. The main idea of the poem is expressing the loneliness feelings.
